I am a coworker of Dan Maccoux, father of Olivia and Traci Maccoux. Initially, Dan was one of my employees and I could tell from my interaction with him that he was a stand up individual who always had a smile on his face. In other words, he is a very likable guy. It came as quite a surprise when I found out about the struggles of two chronically ill children and the financial stress that he was under as a result. Obviously, he was a strong man of faith. The more I got to know Dan, the more compelled I felt to get involved in helping to ease his financial problems caused by his medical bills. The result was the creation of the TOFutureHope Medical Fund (formally the Traci and Olivia Maccoux Medical Fund).

Rick and Jeanne Carter
I have known the Maccoux family for 25 years--as long as I have been married to Cathy's brother Rick. So, I am "Aunt Jeanne" and I am also Traci's godmother. I have spent many hours at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis and St. Paul attempting to help support Cathy and Dan as they deal with the ongoing medical issues and emergencies Olivia and Traci experience. Sometimes it's waiting with them in the Surgical Lounge, other times it's sitting with one of the girls so that their mom and dad can take a quick break. I am constantly amazed at how much strength and grace the entire family has in managing their difficulties. I got involved with the medical fund group because I felt that I had some volunteer skills which could be utilized to help the girls.
- Jeanne -I am Cathy Maccoux's brother, and Olivia and Traci are my nieces. We just helped Cathy and Dan celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. You would never now what they have been through and continue to go through, from the scene we saw that day. From the time I have spent in the hospital room with each of the girls (a fraction of the time Cathy and Dan spend in any given year), I am amazed at the strength and positive attitude they maintain. Our whole family is incredibly grateful for the effort of this group to provide a vehicle for some financial assistance. As a result, my wife Jeanne and I are willing to help the fund's efforts any way we can.

Cindy Egesdal
My name is Cindy Egesdal. I've known the Maccoux family since the beginning. Cathy is my sister, which makes me "Aunt Cindy" to the girls. I am also proud to be Amanda's Godmother. On top of Cathy being my one of my best friends, daycare provider for my twins, Carter and Claire, and mentor, the entire Maccoux family has been my inspiration on a daily basis. There are many times when I feel that they do far more to help me than I will ever be able to help them.
Though life is busy for us all, I've done my best to be there at their side and try to help them out in any way I am capable of. Be it a cook, a taxi driver, a friend, a ear or shoulder or most importantly, a "relief pitcher" staying overnight at the hospital to hang out with the girls to provide a break for Cathy and Dan, and hopefully some comedy relief for Traci and Olivia.
I've watched this family go through the extreme highs and lows, I've experienced the emotional pain and trauma along with them while sitting countless hours in the surgery and recovery waiting rooms- but that is only the beginning of why I am part of this cause. The real reason is because I've witnessed the Maccoux family continually overcoming all of their odds, while never missing an opportunity to help others. Even in the midst of their most painful and uncertain of times - they will put other's needs before their own, which makes them the remarkable family that they are. I'm truly blessed by being a part of this amazing family and proud to be a part of the TOFutureHope.com cause. It is my hope that you will be able to gain insight to the Maccoux family and their unique circumstances and take this opportunity to extend your kindness to help them out in any way you can. Thank you.

I met the Maccoux family through my best friend Cindy. Cindy is Cathy's sister and has been a very supportive aunt to all three of the Maccoux girls. I too have had a child in the hospital for a lengthy time and I truly understand the dynamics of having an acutely sick child. Therefore, I chose to start helping the Maccoux family. During this time I have had a front row seat to their unfortunate situation. I continue to be encouraged by their perseverance, positive outlook, and determination that they possess. Please do whatever you can to help this courageous family.

I have known the Maccoux family for about 10 years and worked with Dan for about eight. One thing I have always admired is the family's positive attitude and willingness to help others despite the difficulties they face on a daily basis.

Mark and Linda Nyvall
We met Dan and Cathy Maccoux in 1982, when Cathy began providing childcare for our first child, Kate. Three years later, she also began taking care of our son, Peter. Cathy and Dan gave us so much - special activities with our kids, pictures, videotapes - so that we wouldn't miss anything while we were away from Kate and Peter. Over the years, our families grew close and our children became friends. Dan and Cathy have faced the hardship of their daughters' illnesses and financial stress with courage, strength, and grace. They have been an inspiration for all of us. We want to do what we can to help them now in this time of need.

My wife and I have know Dan and Cathy for many years. We met through our daughters who swam together on a competitive swim team. We got to know them while sitting for many hours watching swim practice and attending swim meets. Actually, when we first met Dan and Cathy they had only one chronically ill child, Olivia. We became friends and learned about Olivia and the medical problems they had encountered. Then Traci became ill and now they have two chronically ill children. Through it all Dan and Cathy have remained upbeat and positive about the future for their daughters. They have also been able to keep their sense of humor through some very serious adversity.
I became involved with the fund for two reasons. One is to help a friend and the second is to raise awareness of the "hidden" costs of obtaining and keeping quality health care for loved ones. Parking fees at hospitals, co-pays, deductibles, time away from work, and meals purchased while waiting for surgery are just some of the costs that must be bourne by families caring for chronically ill children.

I'm a co-worker of Dan's. From day one I was impressed with Dan's friendly and positive attitude! He always takes the time to see how things are going and to brighten up my day. On one of Olivia's hospital stays, Dan shared some of Olivia and Traci's medical problems. When I went to the CaringBridge website I was so stunned by what this family has gone through and continues to go through. I'm just amazed how everyone in this family is so strong and unfaltering in their faith. When things overwhelm me and I start to feel a little sorry for myself, all I do is pull up the CaringBridge website....my little problems are nothing.
When I found out that there was a group being put together to help the Maccoux's with the financial problems, I wanted to be a part of it.

I met the Maccoux family when our daughter and Amanda danced together at Butterfield's for a quite a few years. I remember Cathy coming to pick up Amanda when Olivia was about 1 years old -- as cute as can be and a huge smile. At that time, she had already endured quite a few surgeries. Through the years, we would try and smile while paying our dance bill as it was quite expensive but we knew there was an end in sight as they have since graduated and no longer dance. However, it seems there is no end in sight for them as their medical bills continue to escalate every year. I have had many blessings in my life one of them is a healthy child and the other is meeting the Maccoux's. I am honored to be on the committee and will continue to help this worthy cause.

I first met the Maccoux Family in 2007, as my daughter, Sydney , swims with Olivia on the Great Wolf Swim Team. As Director of Community Giving for TreeHouse, a non-profit organization serving at-risk teens in the suburbs of Minneapolis , and with 12 years of fund development and community relations experience, I offered my assistance to the team. It is my sincere hope that through some new community connections and approaches we can get the Maccoux's "caught up" in 2008!
I am amazed by this incredible family every time I get the pleasure of "hanging out" with them. Their positive attitudes and laughter make my days brighter just for knowing them. I also now have the honor of being Olivia's Girl Scout Leader, as she just joined our troop of 20- 6th grade girls. Her smile and infectious personality will surely add so much to our troop in the years to come.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with this team of committed individuals and knowing we ARE going to make it happen this year!
