Because of Traci and Olivia's chronic medical status, the Maccoux's are experiencing the dramatic toll and serious financial burdens, which accompany their serious conditions.
The hospitalizations, surgeries, and associated expenses have been on-going since 1995 for Olivia and on-going since 2001 for Traci, so one can imagine the expenses are practically impossible to absorb over this long period of time. The total cost of medical care for each daughter is in the multi millions of dollars and this amount continues to grow with each trip to the doctor. Thankfully, the majority of this has been covered by insurance however; the Maccoux's portion of the medical cost has placed a significant financial burden on the family. Just try to imagine having to pay these expenses, with Olivia alone, for over 14 years. Now, add the additional financial burden of Traci's ongoing expenses, at the same time, over the past 8 years. To give you perspective on the situation.
In 2005, the Maccoux's out-of-pocket medical related expenses totaled $14,227.22 which included 8,146 miles driven.
In 2006, the Maccoux's out-of-pocket medical related expenses totaled $13,715.45 which included 5,037 miles driven.
In 2007, the Maccoux's out-of-pocket medical related expenses totaled $9,004.04 which included 4,735 miles driven.
In 2008, the Maccoux's out-of-pocket medical related expenses totaled $13,069.58 which included 8,460 miles driven.
In 2009,. the Maccoux's out-of-pocket medical related expenses totaled $14,173.30 which included 8,021 miles driven.
To summarize, this four year period alone had out-of-pocket medical related expenses totaling $64,189.59 and included 34,399 miles driven.
Again, this situation has been on-going since 1995.
These outstanding uncovered medical expenses have forced the Maccoux's to refinance their home mortgage, more than once, in addition to having to borrow the maximum amount possible based on their home's market value. This is added on top of the financial strain due to the countless days where either Cathy or Dan are unable to work as they are needed at the besides of one or both of their daughters. In cases like this, they are forced to use their vacation days, or take days off without pay, to be where they are needed most.
The emotional and physical pain this family has had and continues to endure, is more than any family should have to bear, let alone the added strain of a significant financial burden.
Throughout the years, countless people have asked the Maccoux's the question, "How can we help you out?"
Though there are limited areas in which people can help, one which is necessary and will have a significant impact is financially.
